5 Ingredient Vegan Patties

 

Sometimes the burger is more about the toppings and sauces than it is about patty itself. This recipe is here to help you let the other ingredients shine or just provide you with a super simple patty recipe for your busy life. So without further ado, let’s make some burgers. (This recipe makes about 6 patties).

Ingredients

2 cans of Chickpeas, rinsed (15 oz cans)

1 yellow onion

6 cloves of garlic

1 chia seed egg

3 tablespoons flour

How to:

  1. Finely chop the onion and garlic and add them to a pan with olive oil, cook until browned, stirring constantly.

  2. While the onions and garlic cook, mix 1 tablespoon chia seeds with 3 tablespoons water in a small bowl to create the chia seed egg. Set aside.

  3. Meanwhile, pour rinsed chickpeas into a medium bowl and smash with a large spoon or fork until nearly all of the chickpeas are smashed (no need to worry about getting all of them).

  4. Add the cooked garlic and onions to the medium sized bowl and stir to combine. Then add in the chia seed egg stirring to insure there are no clumps of chia seeds.

NOTE: at this point you can add in spices or herbs to enhance the taste of your patty, if you’re going for an Italian meat taste add in Italian seasoning and parsley, if you want a tropical taste add in some ginger or cilantro, etc.

5. Add in as much flour as needed to create a sticky consistency (about 3 tablespoons) and mix with your hands.

6. Form the mixture into 6 - 8 patties and place on a large plate. Transfer the plate into the refrigerator and let sit for at least five minutes before cooking.

7. Heat olive oil in the pan used to cook the onions and garlic. Once simmering, add in the patties (you’ll have to cook them 2 or 3 at a time). The goal is to simply fry the outside to get them crispy, no need to worry about cooking them all the way through.

NOTE: if the patties seem to be falling apart, squish them down with the spatula to allow for a skinnier patty with more surface area.

Beef burgers are one of the worst foods for the planet so I am always so excited when I can share a delicious veggie burger with a meat eating friend. These patties are so simple, yet so yummy and super good for your body and the earth!
